*Oakland Public Library Summer Reading Program - this wonderful summer reading challenge is free, fun prizes and there is usually a little celebration at the library at the end of summer. Grab flyers/bookmarks from the library to send home with each student. Also, many children’s librarians are happy to come to your classroom to talk up the reading challenge and distribute flyers. This summer’s program begins June 13th!
*Tumble Books this is a collection of FREE online kids animated books that can be enjoyed all summer long from any device by logging in with their library account number
*Barnes and Noble families can download a reading log, which is available in both English and Spanish, or teachers can download and copy to send home with students. Students read 8 books and then go to the store (our local one is in Emeryville) and get a free new book from their summer collection. The collections for summer reading prizes are books of high interest to kids and thoughtfully selected including a few selections in Spanish.
*RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) has informative brochures in Spanish and English to encourage summer reading and literacy activity ideas. Link attached for brochure page for teachers to print and send home
*Start With A Book. org Parents can sign up for reading tips texted to you 3-4 times per week (English or Spanish)
